PAST PROJECT CASE STUDY

Background

NHS Digital was at a critical phase with the development of additional features within the NHS App when the global COVID-19 pandemic struck.

As expected, downloads of the App increased significantly and so the userbase grew exponentially. The sign-up process was significantly bottle-necked with manual identification checks required to be carried out behind the scenes in order to allow access by users to patient information securely.

As demand grew, so did the need for an automated solution to ease the burden on the identity checkers who could not cope with the additional growth as a result of the pandemic and government advisors recommending NHS App.

The Challenge

NHS needed a system that could cope with the additional demand and due to the pandemic, this process had to be accelerated. Manual identification checks of things like Passports and Drivers Licences were creating a large overhead and this is where TechSmart Software Solutions came in to offer our expertise in this area.

The Solution

TechSmart seamlessly integrated into the team onsite offering valuable expertise and industry knowledge. We listened to the challenges and then after investigating many third-party providers such as AWS and Paycasso, we made the recommendation that we could integrate the App with these providers in order to automate the checks and so reduce the burden on the team.

We built an excellent relationship with Paycasso, who was a valued customer of the NHS, and additionally, we utilised our expert AWS knowledge to integrate AWS Rekognition into the existing system. Integrating with these third-party providers, we were able to reliably automate identification checks during prefight thus reducing the burden on the NHS during one of the most critical periods.

PAST PROJECT CASE STUDY

Background

Hippo Digital is a full-service digital consultancy working with both the private and public sectors. TechSmart Software Solutions had been working with NHS Digital and were approached by Hippo to further provide our expertise in order to collaborate on the vulnerable shielding project, on behalf of the Government Digital Service. This was at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and the government urgently needed to identify the most vulnerable in society, so that essential services could be provided to those in need during the lock down.

The Challenge

A set of criteria had to be devised in order to determine whether a patient was at high, medium or low risk of complications. The Shielded Patient List was continually being updated via the NHS and local social care organisations and crucially, information had to flow between these disparate systems in order to keep this list up to date.

A system had to be devised in order to pull these disparate systems together, to integrate the service with NHS Login and to ensure that information was being kept up to date and held securely, as not to send out faulty information to the public.

TechSmart was enlisted to provide our technological expertise on the project and was able to aid in the creation of a system fit for purpose, that was built at pace in response to the unique challenges presented by the pandemic.

The Solution

TechSmart integrated into the team on-site in order to fully understand the requirements and systems and were able to provide our expertise and, our knowledge around Amazon Web Services.

With a vast array of experience in utilising and integrating with third-party systems using many different programming languages and third-party integrations, we were able to assist in the creation of the system, fully meeting the expectations of our client Hippo Digital and in so doing, provide a much-needed service to the Government Digital Service.

Background

Sharp Gaming is renowned for their advanced gaming technology, and in 2021 Sharp officially became part of the Betfred family. Sharp Gaming consists of a highly skilled and highly experienced team of developers, used to the complexities of Software Development and working to deliver in an agile and flexible way. Sharp works with and recruits some of the best industry talent. The migration of Betfred into the Sharp platform presented unique and complex challenges and so Sharp decided to enlist external expertise to resolve a large and complex data migration. This is where TechSmart Software Solutions came in.

The Challenge

The source systems and data were very different to the target platform and impacted existing systems in nuanced ways, which meant that the target platform needed to change in order to support the migration. Information was hidden in obscure places and on occasion, third-party systems at source meant that logic and processes were inaccessible.

The Solution

TechSmart Software Solutions provided essential support and advice in key decisions to the data migration team and additionally, helped to ensure that existing systems could cope with the data migration and volumes coming into the Sharp platform. We provided our expertise around disaster recovery and how rollback could be achieved in the event of the migration not going to plan as well as supporting the team through this critical venture.
